Sign Post Directs Visitors to Free Surfing Lesson
Hey Dudes and Dudettes! This sign post consists of a driftwood board with ”Free Surf Lesson – Click Here” on it. It can be stuck in the sand as shown below, simply laid on the beach like driftwood, attached to another post, or attached to a wall. The sign contains a simple script, clicking on the sign redirects the user to a lesson and video on how to surf in Second Life. The script is full perms, so you can check out the code if you are interested in making similar scripted signs that link to websites. Why would anyone want this free surfing lesson sign?
There are numerous virtual beaches” that people have created in Second Life, and more get created all the time. Many of these have “surfable” waves, and most provide free or loaner beginner surfboards. If you own or manage a Second Life beach sim that has surfing waves, many of your visitors may not realize just how easy it is to surf. I’ve noticed most visitors stand around for a few minutes then leave without trying to surf. Perhaps the size of the waves and potential complexity of surfing may intimidate them. Or it may not even occur to them that they are welcome to give it a try!! I put off trying for a long time because I figured it would be difficult to do. When I discovered how easy and fun it is to SL surf, I created a “How to Surf in Second Life” tutorial and video.
This sign directs your visitors to the simple beginning surfing lesson and surf video. This shows them that surfing is easy and fun and worth trying. Once they have tried surfing, they are much more likely to stick around and explore, maybe look at some surfing related gear in your shop or shops? That means you are much more likely to complete sales and pay for some of the substantial tier it takes for the space needed to operate a surf wave!
This sign, as well as the free website it links to, provide you with another tool for converting visits to your surf beach sim into sales. Plus making it was a fun little project for me! Cowabunga!
